CR84FN Challenge #1

WOW!  Two posts in one day that aren't pre-scheduled.  LOL
My second card today card is for a new color challenge at Mona Pendleton's blog, Cupcake's Creations.  Mona challenged us to make a card with red, green, and tan, so here's what I came up with.

I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the Kraft mat, added a little DP, a snowflake covered in Diamond Dust, a sparkly bow with a Prima flower, and an image I stamped with one of my new Giordano Christmas stamps.  I used Distress inks to color the image and then added some Stickles to the fluffy parts of Santa's suit.
I'm sure Mona would love for you to come join in too on her first color challenge.
Have a great weekend!

Our challenge this week at Just Inspirational is to make a shaped card and our sponsor is Bugaboo Stamps.  Jodie has some of the cutest little digis in her store.  I chose to use her Bobblehead Elf.  Isn't he sweet!
I used a Labels Eight Nestabilities to cut out the card and my little elf is colored with Distress inks.

I made a second layer for the inside of the card and attached the two parts together with a brad so it can swing open.
Put your design caps on and come join us with your shaped cards this week at Just Inspirational Challenges!

Papercraft Star Challenge #19

This weeks photo inspiration at Papercraft Star was a beautiful mixture of soft greens and brown--at least that's what I saw.  :)  For my card I did a lot of layering and used a cute little pear stamp from Making Memories that I colored with a light coating of gold Perfect Pearls.  There's some distressing and inking and a scrunchy bow of seam binding.  I even added a few beads on a decorative head pin and added it to the bow.  I just love this color combinations.  I'm a muted colors kinda girl.

Our sponsor for this weeks challenge is Sugar B Supplies.  This little Etsy shop has some really cool stuff.  They carry a ton of decorative tape rolls.  You know, like the Tim Holtz and 7Gypsies stuff.  They also have some paper products like tags and kraft paper embellishments.  Go take a look for yourself cause I'm sure everyone will find something they like.
This is your last chance to get into the drawing for this months Grand Prize.  Post a project for the challenge and your name will go in for the drawing.  Deadline for entries is tomorrow at 12:00 noon EST.  Voting begins after that.
Happy Friday!

Time to vote, a place to visit, and a new gadget

Hi All!
Don't forget today's the last day to get in your votes over at Papercraft Star.  You get to pick the winner of this weeks goodies from The Scrapbooking Cottage!
As a member of several design teams I get to visit a LOT of blogs.  LOL  I started thinking about some of the awesome artists that I've visited and thought maybe it would be kinda cool to highlight one every week.  Maybe do a little post with a link to their blog so you can go see some great artwork that you might not run across otherwise.
I've already sent you over to Ira's awesome site.  I hope you took the time to scroll down through her projects.  She's such a diversified artist.  Today I'm going to give you a link to Lily's blog, Lily's Art Creations.  I just love Lily's style.  Make sure you scroll through several pages of her posts.  She has some gorgeous cards, but other kinds of projects as well.  I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you left her a little love too.  If you like my little spotlight idea let me know.
Okay guys, I am by NO means a computer guru, but I was asked about a e-mail subscription choice for my blog, so I have added a new gadget to my sidebar.  If it works like it's supposed to you can pop in your e-mail and my posts will go directly to your mailbox.  I know how following a blog works and I know how to use the Google Reader, but I don't know a whole lot about feeds.  Having said that, please let me know if this gadget doesn't work like it's supposed to.  I removed the other RSS feed gadget I had, so I hope that didn't mess anyone up.  (NOTE:  Due to technical difficulties I had to try a different gadget. LOL [Thanks again for the help Nancy]  I have put the RSS feed gadget back for those who like feeds better.)
Off to get some housework done so I can have some time to make some projects with all the goodies I've been collecting the last few days.
Have a blessed day!

Ira's Halloween Fun

Ira Huberts is one of the very first bloggie friends I ever made.  She lives in the Netherlands and she is an incredible artist (as you'll be able to tell from all the awards on her sidebar!).  Awesome cards, 3-D projects, a beautiful mosaic covered bench in her garden, and some of the most incredible little paper "scenes".  She's done it again and I think this is so amazing--and funny too! Please take a minute and go visit her blog here.  I think it will make you smile. :)

Papercraft Star Challenge #18

Our Papercraft Star challenge this week is a "Thank You" theme combined with a recipe.  For my design team card I've used a Sarah Kay coloring page image I found on the internet and used my watercolour pencils to color it.  The card design in an old Mojo Monday sketch..  For the recipe we needed to do some dry embossing so I used a Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder on the Kraft card section of the card.  Next in the recipe was a Cricut or other die cut so I used a Labels Nestie for the little tab under the image.  The last ingredient was some metal.  I used some flocked brads but since you really can't see the metal I added a little gold butterfly charm too.

This weeks sponsor is The Scrapbooking Cottage and the prize is a $15.00 gift certificate!  They have all kinds of goodies including stamps and a lot of the most popular paper lines like Basic Grey, Bo Bunny, and My Mind's Eye.
Play along this week for one entry into the drawing for this months GRAND PRIZE by having your creation linked by 12:00 noon Saturday.  Then it's voting time!
Happy Friday!

Some news and light box instructions

Today marks the start of a new series of challenges over at Crafters Digital Arts Center.  Tracey is offering a free Fred, She Said digi that can be used in the challenge.  Make sure you pop over there and grab it.  It's a darling little fall pumpkin.  You can read all about the challenge details here.
Papercraft Star is accepting applicants for some new Design Team members.  You can click this link to see all the details about that.
I am making progress on the mini so hopefully my creativity (which has been miraculously abundant the last couple of days) will hold out and I can get it finished fairly quickly.
Several people have left comments about the lightbox so I thought I'd do a little more indepth post about how I made it incase you want to try it yourself.

1.  The box was bought at Wal-mart.  You can find it next to all the envelopes and mailing supplies.  I couldn't find any measurements on the box so I took a picture of what's written on the bottom so you can find the right size.

2.  To cut out the three sides, I used a quilters grid.  The size was perfect for tracing to cut out the holes.  If you don't have one of these you can just use a ruler to draw your lines.  There's no set measurements for this.  I just eyeballed it.  NOTE:  I left the box UNFOLDED during the whole cutting process.  I slid a large cutting mat inside the flat box and used an E-xacto knife to cut along the lines I'd drawn.  Make sure you pay attention to where you mark your holes.  Three connecting sides need to be marked.  The back and bottom of the box remain solid.

3.  Once you have the three openings cut, you can fold up the box.  Use masking tape to hold the bottom of the box closed.  I tried marking the top without it being glued closed and it was hard to do by myself.  You might want to get a little help here.  I did not glue or tape these flaps together.  You're going to have to cut through both flaps to make your opening.  I did them one at a time.  you may know an easier way.  Don't worry about perfect lines.  Just keep it as close as you can.  Once you have the top cut out, you can use a hot glue gun to close up whats left of the flaps.
4.  For the inside of the box I just bought two sheets of regular white posterboard, also from Wal-mart.  It took almost a whole sheet to cut the strips to cover all the inside surfaces of the box (EXCEPT the back--that does not need to be covered.  You can get particular if you want. I just measured the individual edges with a ruler, cut a strip that wide width wise across the posterboard and ended up just trimming them a little here and there.  Once again it doesn't have to be perfect.  Your basically trying to make the whole surface of the inside of the box white.  NOTE:  I made sure the dull side of the paper was facing outward.  Most of the instructions I read called for Bristol paper which is dull.  The last part of the box is the curved insert.  I had to cut the second piece of posterboard lengthwise to have it long enough to fit in the box.  I hope you can see this well enough in the picture.  I didn't trim anything off of the ends.  You slide the first short end of the paper into the box and then let it naturally curl at the back and the other end will end up resting against the top of the box.  Be careful here.  You don't want to put any creases in your paper.  You're trying for a seamless background.

5.  All the hard works done now.  All that's left is to do any trimming you might need to do and then cut some pieces of thin white fabric large enough to cover the top and two side holes.  Use masking tape to secure the fabric pieces to the box and you're done!
6.  I purchased the clamp light in the hardware section at Wal-mart.  Most of the instructions I found called for special "daylight" bulbs.  I couldn't find anything that said daylight.  However, I did remember reading something about a blue tint to the bulb which cuts down on the yellowing in photos.  I found these bulbs at Lowe's and they seem to work well.
You may want to experiment with your own box.  Some tutorials called for more than one light.  I find that all I have to do is open my photo in Photoshop Elements, click the quick edit and the automatic buttons for both Levels and Contrast under lighting and I'm ready to go.
If you decide to make one of these let me know how yours comes out.
My post for Papercraft Star will be coming up tomorrow.
Blessings!

Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge #30

"They're painting the roses red.  They're painting the roses red."  Well, in this case I colored them with Prismacolor pencils.  LOL  Isn't this image lovely!  It's a new one in the Digi Doodle Shop Store.  If you saw my photo there and then came here you may notice a difference.  I had taken the photo for the challenge and posted it before I built my light box.  I retook the photo and it looks so much better.
Keep it simple, no designer paper, and one embellishment are the requirements for this week's challenge.  Oh boy, no designer paper!  That's tough.  I used several mats to add different colors into the background of the card, but I wanted the image to be the focal point.
If I can do this, you can do this so hop on over to Digi Doodle Shop's Best and link up your creation!

Supplies

Just Inspirational Challenge #17

We have a Christmas theme and sketch challenge this week at Just Inspirational Challenges.  For my card I've used a Lili of the Valley James the bear stamp I recently bought.  Isn't he adorable!  His hat fur is covered with diamond stickles and I painted his hat and the gifts with Perfect Pearls to give them some shimmer.  I punched out some flowers and used an embossing stylus to round the petals and give them dimension.
Everones making Christmas cards already so why not make one using our sketch and come join us for the challenge this week!
Blessings!

Fred, She Said Designs Digi of the Week

As a member of the Design Team at Fred, She Said Designs, we each get to pick out one of Tracey's amazing digis to put on sale at the store.  I've picked the Sunflowers and Thankfulness digi and pre-colored sets.  These sets are on sale at the Fred, She Said store for 40% off through midnight Monday, October 25th.
My sample project using this digi set is a tea light box card.

You can find instructions for how to make one of these at Stampartic.  All the measurements are in metric, which is what I used and it really wasn't hard at all.  I did have to do a little tweaking on some of the design paper measurements only because of the particular border punch I used on the edges.
The card base is Bazill French Vanilla and the Design paper is Recollections from Michaels.  If you've never bought one of Tracey's digi sets before you need to know that you don't just get one image.  In this set you'll find sentiments, individual and group sunflowers, the frame, and the frame and flowers.
I combined one of the sentiments and the frame and flowers for the cover of the card box.  A little bit of punch work, some pearls, ribbon and the image colored with watercolour pencils make up the cover.

On the inside there is a pocket with a tag that I made using the sunflower grouping, also colored with watercolour pencils.  The little swirly flourish on the pocket was created with Glossy Accents and bronze Perfect Pearls.  The little box holds six tea light candles.  I used the frame digi as a template to cut out the viewing hole in the box.
This looks complicated but it's really easy and makes a cute gift.
Happy Tuesday!

Papercraft Star Challenge #17

We have a Halloween photo inspriation to work from this week at Papercraft Star.  I love making shaped or dimensional cards and this week I decided to try my hand at making a frame card.  The cute little wizard image is from Imag-e-nation.  He's colored with Prismacolor pencils and OMS and he's got some purple Perfect Pearls and Glossy Accents to add some sparkle and shine to him and his jack-o-lantern.  The sign is a freebie design I found at my friend Lily's website Lily's Art Creations.  For my Chinese lanterns I simply cut out some circles with punches and then used an embossing tool to create the ridges.  I inked them and "strung" them on some twine from an office tag.  I got the bat and spider from Michaels and tried my hand at drawing the spiders web in the bottom corner.  I thought it turned out fun and cute and it was something different for me.
Okay, so here's the low down on this week's challenge.

Our sponsor this week is POOPOOPAPER!

Yep, you guessed it.  Somebody has found a use for all that lovely animal dung.  Go check out their website.  They've got some cool "green" products (no pun intended).  :)

Don't forget about our new Grand Prize drawing too.  Everytime you enter our challenge you are entered into the monthly Grand Prize which is being sponsored by two awesome Etsy shops, Art Cult and DPD Designs.
You have until 12:00 noon tomorrow (Saturday) to get your entry in for this week's Halloween inspired challenge.  Make sure you tell your friends about the challenge and encourage them to come back after noon and vote for you AND PLAY along with us!  Remember, our challenge winners are determined by the voting public.

Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge #29

The Digi Doodle Shop's Best challenge this week was to create a card with a person on it.  I picked out this lovely vintage lady image.  Being from the south, I have a thing for the Southern Belle look.  The image is called "1800 Vintage Dress 6" and can be found at the Digi Doodle Shop Store.  I used Derwent Watercolour pencils and a little Distress ink to color the image.  Her dress has a little extra sparkle from some Stickles too.  I've used lots of Prima flowers including a piece of ribbon under the image, and I created a little pearl heart from some pearl trim.
Everybody has some kid of people stamp so ink 'em up and come join us for this weeks challenge!  You  just might win $10.00 worth of digi stamps from the store. :)

Just Inspirational Challenge #16

Our challenge this week at Just Inspirational Challenges is to make a stamped project--ink or digi.  It doesn't have to be a Christmas image.  Our sponsor is Crafty Sentiments Designs and Suzette gave the DT this cute little snowman to work with.  This turned into a VERY monochromatic card but I'm happy with it.  The image is watercolored and there's lots of layers.  For the flower I made the bottom petals with some of the paper I used in the layering and a flower punch and then I stuck a mulberry paper rose in the center that I inked with a little Distress ink.
Blessings!

Fred, She Said Fall Chrysanthemum

This card was made using the Fall Flowers Chrysanthemum image from Fred, She Said Designs.  I've colored the flower using Derwent Watercolour pencils and then inked the edges of the panel with Aged Mahongany Distress ink.  I've added a little stitching and some layering with a Martha Stewart Eyelet Lace edge punch.  Just a little different take on fall colors. :)
I've found a few challenges that this card will qualify for.

Papercraft Star DT Challenge #16

Meet Stella and Gus.  Quite a pair aren't they?  Our sponsor this week for Papercraft Star's challenge is Bugaboo Stamps.  The prize will be 7 digi stamps from Bugaboo and believe me, Jodie has some awesome stuff to pick from!

The Design Team got to pick a stamp to work with and I just couldn't pass this one up.  That sentiment just got me.  LOL   I know a couple who fit the image and the sentiment perfectly! (and no I'm not talking about hubby and I--ha ha)
There's so much going on at Papercraft Star right now so let's see if I can bring you up to speed.

  • There's still time to sign up for the $25.00 gift certificate here.  You have until October 15th.
  • October 15th is also the day that Papercraft Star will start accepting applications for some new DT members.
  • October also starts something new with our prizes.  Besides our weekly prizes, Papercraft Star will also be offering a monthly prize.  Everytime you enter a project for a challenge, your name goes into the drawing for the monthly Grand Prize.  The more times you enter the more chances you get!  This months sponsors will be DPD Designs, an etsy store that carries an awesome selection of buttons and other items and Art Cult, another etsy shop with some incredible digital collage images.
I wish the papers I used showed up better in the photo.  This SEI paper is really gorgeous!  The card is very simple.  I turned the sketch on end, colored the image with colored pencils and OMS, and added a little pizazz with a Martha Stewart border punched edge.
Make sure you get your projects in for this challenge before 12:00 noon Saturday and don't forget to come back after that and vote.  YOUR votes decide who wins the challenge!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Here we go!

This is my second post for today so make sure you scroll down for the earlier one.
Back in August I answered a Design Team call at Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge Blog.  It was a wonderful surprise when Judy contacted me to let me know that I had been chosen for their new design team.  This card marks my official start as a member of the Digi Doodle DT!
The theme for Challenge #28 is "Orange You Glad".   I'm not normally an orange person, but at this time of year all those fall colors really appeal to me.
My card uses Bazzill cardstock and some fun fall papers from Recollections found at Michaels.  The image is a beautiful Digi Doodle design called "Flowers in Chair".  I've colored it with watercolor pencils.
Break out all those yummy fall oranges and join us for this week's challenge!
Blessings!

Stamp:  Digi Doodle Shop's "Flowers in Chair"

Just Inspirational Challenge #15

It's time for Challenge #15 at Just Inspirational Challenges and this week we want you to use the following thing on your card:  ribbon, gems/pearls, and red and gold.
Our sponsor this week is Meljen's Design's.  LOVE her digis!!!
For my card I've used some gorgeous My Mind Eye papers and a Meljen's digi image.  The red ribbon is some fiber that I bought a long time ago.  It wasn't easy to work with because it's three separate strands and they didn't want to stay wound together.  I've popped a second printing of the stars up on pop dots and added some gold half pearls and some little gem stars.  They were originally white but I used some gold alchol ink mixative to color them.  Lots of layers and little distress ink finish it off.
Pop on over to JIC, see what the other DT members have created and link up your creation for this challenge!
Blessings!
